CARPC and opentracker

Postby lunatic » Tue Mar 31, 2009 2:41 pm

Hello,
I was searching the GPS receiver for my carpc and i found this nice project.
I want to ask if i can use GPS module for both: opengpstracker and my carpc(broken laptop) ( IGO, TOMTOM or smth on Windows or Linux).
If yes would it be hard to make it work?

Thanks

Yes, you can split the CMOS signal to the microcontroller and to a MAX232 for the PC.
There is no reason that would not work. You need to make the GPS power stay on while
the car is started, and be switched when the GPS tracker wants to locate. You could use
another transistor to do that; let me know if you need a schematic.

Hello collegue GPS tracker builder. I also experienced problems in finding a phone to (likely) work for the European frequencies. The Motorola C168 i phone is also available in a model for the European frequncies. This model is called the C168 (without the i).
Such a model might be obtained from places like India.
Here is a direct link to an auction site which might help you get such a model. Mike has tested such a phone for me as far as possible and this should work. I'm currently building the tracker myself so I can hope to inform you about the results.
